Custom-made fly screens - optimal insect protection

From spring to autumn, insects of all kinds are particularly active and like to stay in the home. Itchy mosquito bites are commonplace. Nobody is enthusiastic about these nuisances and therefore wants to get rid of them. However, before the chemical club is used, you should consider custom-made fly screens for your windows.

Advantages of the fly screen

A fly screen in front of the apartment window, the roof window or in front of the patio door proves to be an effective protection against the ingress of insects. Depending on the quality, the nets used are extremely fine, hard-wearing and well permeable to light and air. They can also be used by a “non-craftsman” in just a few steps and without any special tools.

Custom-made fly screens

Innovative insect protection is made-to-measure fly screens such as the WinClip Bug. They sit perfectly in the window frame and can be quickly installed and removed. Even when the window is open, they do not fall out of the frame thanks to retaining clips or brackets. Due to the particularly fine mesh covering and the discreet color, they are hardly noticeable.

How does custom-made fly screen work?

To make custom fly screens, the manufacturer only needs a little information:
  • clear width of the window frame
  • clear height of the frame

The clear dimension generally refers to the opening dimension, i.e. the height and width of an opening. When it comes to windows, you always measure in several places due to possible window tolerances. The different insect protection options also require different types of dimensions.
Measurements are always made with the window open; the distance between the frames on the right and left is decisive. With this information, a unique fly screen is created that only fits a specific window.

Attaching the custom-made fly screen

The custom-made fly screen can be attached in different ways. Special grid frames are drilled or glued into the window reveal. However, the easiest way is to attach it using brackets, swivel hooks or clips like the WinClip Bug. With this version you don't need any tools. It is carried out quickly and does not cause any dirt. The removal is also carried out in the same, simple way, for example for cleaning windows.

Cleaning the fly screen

Before winter, the fly screens can be easily removed from the window openings to clean them thoroughly. No special cleaning agents are required. All you need to do is wipe the frame and grille with a damp cloth and possibly some household cleaner (further cleaning tips can also be found at Ask Mutti). After drying, you can reinstall the grille in just a few steps or store it in a dry place during the winter.
