Darken car windows - this is how you protect yourself from the heat of the sun
April 29, 2025 Windesa
Sun protection, especially for the car, is particularly recommended in summer. If the parking lot is in the sun, the interior heats up so much that it is necessary to ventilate before driving. The intense sunlight can also be unpleasant while driving. The UV rays reach drivers and passengers unhindered. It's not uncommon for people to get sunburned in the car. To protect yourself from this, you should darken your car windows.
Solutions that are only used when necessary are particularly practical here. With the Sonniboy privacy and sun protection, for example, you can get tinted windows in just five minutes - and you can take them out just as quickly if the sun goes away.
Ways to darken car windows
Many car windows are tinted slightly at the factory. Above all, the approximately 20 centimeter wide strip on the windshield is intended to protect the driver from sunlight and excessive light. To optimize light and heat protection, additional measures are required, for example:
- Self-adhesive film
- Acrylic glass panels
- Sun protection and protection against insects with mesh frame
Window film
This is a very thin, tinted film that is applied in-house or by a specialist company. The car windows receive a transparent protective layer that has an individually selectable tint. The film protects against unwanted glances into the passenger compartment of the car, it absorbs UV radiation and also protects against excessive heating caused by the sun.
Use a spatula to carefully apply the film to the pane so that no bubbles form. Companies that specialize in car foiling carry out window tinting professionally.
Acrylic glass panels for automobiles
Acrylic glass panes are unbreakable due to the special material composition. They are set at the factory to have a light transmission of ten percent, making it almost impossible for curious people to look inside the car. The panes are about one millimeter thick and largely retain the sun's heat and UV radiation. Acrylic glass panes are individually tailored to the respective car and can be installed without additional tools. The attachment panes are completely colored and neither water nor glue is required during installation. In winter or when changing a car, the windows can be removed quickly because you just clip them on or clamp them in place.
Darken car windows with mesh frames
Another option for darkening car windows and at the same time protecting them from UV radiation and unwanted glances is to use custom-made mesh frames. A dark and very fine-mesh net is stretched over a wire frame that is tailored to the windows of the existing car brand. Metal or adhesive clips hold the frame in place in the car window. This means the windows can remain open while driving and provide fresh air. If the sun protection is no longer needed, the frame can be removed in just a few steps.
